RD Ultimate Sourcebook of Knitting and Crochet book errata

I have purchased the ultimate sourcebook of knitting and crochet stitches book. I’ve tried knitting up a couple of the patterns and they turn out nothing like the picture. For example, I’m trying to design a sock with one of the knitting patterns in this book (using the honeycomb 2 pattern), but it doesn’t look like the swatch picture. Mine has purl stitches where it clearly doesn’t show this in the pic. Is there an errata page that I can reference somewhere? I tried searching on the internet but didn’t find anything. I don’t know if I’m reading the pattern wrong or what! Thanks for your help!

Its a possibility your gauge is different, even if you use the same size needles.

Or it could be a difference in yarn

Or perhaps you aren’t doing the stitch correct?

I’m not familiar with the book, but it does sound like an errata issue or your missing something in the directions. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read and re-read pattern instructions and just don’t ‘see’ what’s in front of my eyes. :aww:

Try taking the directions row by row, when you get to the row you have purl bumps on the right side but not in the photo, maybe post here again and we can help figure out the problem.

Here are some honeycomb patterns - are any close to what you’re after?

Are you just swatching flat or trying to work in the round? The stitch patterns will be given for working flat, so you have to change the WS rows to knit in the round. Usually that means knit where it says purl and you may have to reverse the row to work from the end instead of from the beg of the instructions.

I looked in the reviews on Amazon & found this:

“However, as I am getting a little more experienced, I am finding a few amount of mistakes in the pages of this book. I tried one stitch pattern and found it actually made the pattern shown in the picture for the pattern next to it. Another time, a pattern that clearly had 23 stitches in every other row all of a sudden had the last two rows saying to K1, P11, K1. I am pretty sure it meant the last part should be K11, but I felt quite upset that I worked my way through the first 14 rows only to be unsure what to do.”

Is it possible that you’re working on an adjacent stitch instead?

I have to check to make sure that it’s not a swatch knitted flat for this pattern. Although for the second pattern this makes sense that it could be that knitting in the round solves the problem. I’ll check tonight and if I get some time I’ll post the pattern that I’m trying out from the book. I’m using the pattern for socks that I’m designing on my own.

Here’s the pattern:

Spiral and Eyelet Panel

Worked over 24sts on a background of reverse St st

1st row (rs): K3, k2tog, k4, yo, ps, yo, k2tog, p2, yo, k4, sl 1, k1, psso, k3.

2nd and every alt row: P9, k2, p2, k2, p9.

3rd row: K2, k2tog, k4, yo, k1, p2, k2tog, yo, p2, k1, yo, k4, sl 1, k1, psso, k2.

5th row: K1, k2tog, k4, yo, k2, p2, yo, k2tog, p2, k2, yo, k4, sl1, k1, psso, k1.

7th row: K2tog, k4, yo, k3, p2, k2tog, yo, p2, k3, yo, k4, sl 1, k1, psso.

8th row: P9, k2, p2, k2, p9.

Repeat these 8 rows.

And here’s the first pattern I tried (Honeycomb Pattern 2) that resulted in the weird purl rows in between the honeycomb circles.

Honeycomb Pattern 2 (multiple of 6 sts + 2)

Note: This is also very effective when worked as a panel with a multiple of 6 sts on a background of reverse St st.

CB3R = slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold at back at work, knit next 2 stitches from left-hand needle, then knit stitches from cable needle.

CB3L = slip next 2 stitches onto cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next stitch from left-hand needle, then knit stitches from cable needle.

1st Row (RS): Knit.
2nd Row: Purl.
3rd Row: K1, *C3R, C3L: rep from * to last st, k1.
4th Row: Purl.
5th and 6th Rows: As 1st and 2nd rows.
7th Row: K1, *C3L, C3R: rep from * to last st, k1.
8th Row: Purl.

Rep these 8 rows.
