Does anyone know the deal with Ravelry? I signed up for an invitation 2 days ago and haven’t received one yet. They said I should expect an invite in one day. I did their tracker and I haven’t moved up in the line at all. However, there are many people behind me in line.

Have you checked your junk mail folder? A lot of invites end up there. Also, you can check your status; click on the link on the front page, put in your email address and it will tell you if you’re still waiting, or have already received it. If the status is invited and you can’t find the email, just email the site admin and they’ll instruct you how to get going.
Be patient, sometime invites don’t go out exactly as scheduled, especially if Casey and Jess (the founders and operators) go out of town. I think the average invite rate is usually 1000/day, but sometimes it is fewer or none at all if there has been some glitch. Hopefully you should have your invite in a couple of days, and if you don’t check the tracker again. Hotmail in particular is know to eat Ravelry invites, so you may have to contact someone if that is the case for you.
Hopefully you’ll be in shortly - and in the meantime you can be glad the wait is now measured in days and not months!
It took a few weeks for me to get mine. Be patient, it’s worth the wait! 
hang in there, I just signed up too and I didn’t get the invite for 4 days. I think they must be overwhelmed.

I read somewhere that they have a wait list for approvals.
I was thinking you had to be recognized in the knitting world as some kind of guru before you could be accepted.
If ya had to be well known or a guru I would have never got it 
They did have a long waiting list, but that’s pretty much down to a relatively short period of time now.

COuple of days? It took me months to get in. And now they’re signing up 1000 a day?:thud:That’s cool though. So good to know there are so mnay knitters out there. I wonder how many theu have signed up so far?
It’s a completely democratic community; as far as I know, nobody has ever been rejected. There are plenty of knitting experts, gurus and Big Names on Ravelry, but you don’t have to be one to belong and participate and enjoy. I even know a couple of non-knitters who belong (but they’re closely related to knitters.) There are no qualifications except an interest in joining, no strings and no fees. Just sign up and you’ll get an invitation.
I don’t know why I thought that. I guess maybe b/c I would read in other forums “I finally got my invitation to Ravelry” and because when I would go to check out their forum I couldn’t even read it unless I was a member. So, somehow I deduced that membership was exclusive. I belong to several car forums and there are a few that you have to be approved for before you can even post; you have to earn points.

It’s the invitation' thing that probably made you think that you had to be someone to getinvited’. It’s only because they’re still testing out the site and wanted to limit access at first while they worked out some of the features.
Ravelry hit 150,000 registered users yesterday. :thud: And numerous invitations are still outstanding, so membership is increasing by the minute.
As someone has already mentioned, the only purpose of the waiting list is to limit the influx of new users at any one time. There are no requiremets to join, and no approval process - they simply send you your invite when you reach the front of the list. When the site first opened last summer, some large waves of interest combined with limited server capacity resulted in a months-long waiting list. The backlog was finally cleared a couple months ago, and it now only takes days to get an invite. The exact wait depends on the interest in joining at the time you request an invite and variations in the invite rate (it tends to slow down when the site owners go out of town or there is stuff going on that requires a lot of thier attention).
