Raglan pattern help

Hi everyone! I’m trying a sweater for the first time ever. I’ve knitted several blankets and scarves, but never attempted anything more difficult. It’s a sweater worked in the round from top down. I got the collar done fairly easily and now working on the body. My question is…what is a “raglan stitch”? I’ve searched the internet for videos, but just can’t quite get it. I understand the M1L and M1R, but when it says “knit 1 raglan stitch”…I’m at a loss. Is it just a regular knit stitch, but clarifing a raglan style? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! A sample of the pattern is below with the “problem stitch” in bold.

Thanks so much!!
Natalie

Round 1: slip BOR marker, knit 1 raglan stitch, slip marker, M1L, knit to the next marker, M1R, slip marker, knit 1 raglan stitch, slip marker, M1L, knit to the next marker, M1R, slip marker, knit 1 raglan stitch, slip marker, M1L, knit to the next marker, M1R, slip marker, knit 1 raglan stitch, slip marker, M1L, knit to the next marker, M1R.
You have increased 8 stitches.

Welcome to KH!
The raglan stitch is the stitch between the increases which will define the raglan “seam” in the sweater. There’ll be 4 raglan stitches or seams running at a slant between sleeves and front and between sleeves and back. So yes, just a regular knit stitch.
What is the name of your pattern?

Thank you for clarifying that for me! It was driving me crazy. The pattern is called Aosta Sweater by the Knit Purl Girl. I really hope it turns out like it’s supposed to. Thanks again!

Just adding a link:

I like the subtle texture stitch. What colour are you making it in?

Very nice! If you have questions don’t hesitate to ask and please let us see a photo of the finished sweater.

I am using Yarn Bee Romantique in Purple from Hobby Lobby. It is sooo soft. Here is what I have so far…I think I’m doing it right.

That’s going to be beautiful. If you’re increasing 8sts per round, you’re on the right track. Thanks for the lovely photo.

Hello again!

Here is an updated picture. I’m starting the sleeves now and am at a total loss for what I need to do. I’m doing a size S, so I placed my marker and knitted all the stitches. But what I’m wondering is that I’m not in the round anymore. It doesn’t tell me to knit in the round, but I am to assume that’s what I need to do? It doesn’t say to sew it up at the end. Part of the instructions are as follows (let me know if you need more of them pasted here):

Slip the 55 (57) 59 (61) 63 resting stitches from the first sleeve back onto your 7mm needles. You can either use a long circular needle, a short circular needle, or double pointed knittings depending on your preferred method for working sleeves.

Place a new BOR marker on the first stitch and work these stitches as follows:

Sizes XS, M, and XL: purl 1, knit 1 until there is 1 stitch left on your needle, purl 1. (i.e.,begin with Round 3 of the Andalusian Stitch pattern)

Sizes S and L: Knit all stitches (i.e., begin with Round 1 of the Andalusian stitch pattern)

All sizes: pick up and knit 5 (5) 5 (7) 7 stitches from the underarm cast on edge. You now have a total of 60 (62) 64 (68) 70 stitches.

Continue working in Andalusian stitch until your sleeve measures approximately 33 cm from the underarm edge, or your preferred length.sweater2

You can either use a long circular needle, a short circular needle, or double pointed knittings depending on your preferred method for working sleeves.

This statement suggests to me that it is in the round as all those options are knitting on the round methods.

I hope that helps
