Hi, I’m knitting Isager bluebell shine raglan increase, it’s the first time I knit raglan increase. According to knitting guide, after finishing the neck short row part (Row 11), I have total 143 stitches (size s).
I have to work total 12 times until 288 stitches, (Inc here is increase 4 stitches ). Does anybody know how many stitches should be increase at each 4th round? here I enclose the photos, it would be very appreciated if someone could help me. Thanks a lot.
Is there something earlier in the pattern that tells you how to do the increases? I see that it provides 2 types of raglan seams, and that “In Bluebell Shine, a ”fan” pattern is created by knitting five stitches into one stitch”.
There will be 4 points at which you do the increases–between the Back and the Sleeve and between the Front and the Sleeve on both right and left sides. Somewhere it should tell you the spacing for these…possibly that’s where you have your markers?
If you can share the instructions for the Shine increase, I’m sure someone can work out how many stitches will be increased.
This errata might be refering to the frequency of raglan increases and the stitch count here. Please check though.
Current version: 5 (US 5)

Continue to introduce YOs at the raglan locations, which are worked on every second round 24 (26, 26, 28) times on both sides of the 2 raglan stitches. When completed there are 284 (300, 308, 324) stitches on the needle in the round.

SLEEVES
Transfer one set of Sleeve stitches to a short circular needle and pickup 6 (6, 8, 8) stitches from the underarm. There are now 66 (72, 76, 80) stitches for the Sleeve.
I tried various numbers but can’t figure out what the increases would be.
It seams the YO increases are 2 at each raglan every 2 rows (yo, 2 sts, yo) which is 8 increased per round
5 sts into one st is an increase of 4 sts at each raglan every 4 rows which is an increase of 16
I don’t know how it might get from 143 sts to either 288 (in pattern posted by Jeiru) or 284 (in errata). Is the 143 stitch count correct?
There’s hardly a knitter on this project who doesn’t comment on how poorly written the pattern is and that it’s definitely not for beginners.
There should 8 markers with two raglan sts between each. The yarn overs are the increases and should be made every other row.
Is it possible that you currently have 144sts ? If so then 8 increases each round would mean 18 inc rounds total would get you to 288sts.
That’s about what this project seems to have in size S.
See also the notes here re frequency of increase rows (every other).
Salmonmac have you been able to count the stitches in row 11 (in the pattern pic)? I keep getting 143 but it feels like it should be 144. Is there a missing stitch?
That’s what I was asking because the numbers work with 144 sts on the needle and 18 inc rounds of 8sts each. Counting the eyelets on some of the patterns in size S makes sense of this. (See post 3 above.)
Easy enough to add a stitch or even leave the stitch count as is for now.
Somewhere you’re likely missing a stitch and your count should be 144 instead of 288. Please recount just to check. Check also that the sleeves have the same number of sts to see if the stitch is missing there.
Check the number of eyelets you have to see if perhaps you missed a yarn over at one of the raglan sts. There should be one yarn over before the raglan and one after for 8 increases each increase round.
You can either add in an extra stitch or leave the stitch count as is. One stitch here or there isn’t going to make a big difference.
Sorry, i don’t think I was clear. I did see your post 3 about the stitch count working with 144. Its what i had been thinking too. The row 11 in the pattern appears to have every stitch listed and it seems to come to 143. I was wondering if you had read that row and if the row.
Perhaps it’s just 143 there because it is still a short row and the ‘missing’ stitch is on the needles but the work was turned before it was worked?
The same I have. After finishing row 11, I have 143 stitches. I don’t know how to continue to work increase until 288 stitches ( 12 times, each 4th round should increase 4 stitches) , how can I increase to 288 stitches?
@salmonmac, @Creations --please note that this pattern has two different approaches to the raglan increases! One uses YO increases every other row, but @Jieru is doing the 2nd one, Bluebell Shine. “In Bluebell Shine, a ”fan” pattern is created by knitting five stitches into one stitch.” This happens on every 4th row.
I just noticed that you will have done some of the raglan increases while doing the short rows. It says to do them a TOTAL of 12 times, so you’ve already done them on Rows 3, 7, and 11. 9 more sets of increases should come to 288 (or 287, as you seem to be short a stitch somewhere).
I could see the two versions but couldn’t work out the numbers for either of them. You have spotted it with the ‘worked a total of 12 times’ and those already done.
Hi, I have one more questions, at the raglan increase part should knit all round , right ? And which stitch should be the exact increase one, is it the Marker M1? when knit at the 4th round ( I mean last round increasing 4, plus original is 5 stitches ) . Thank you in advance.
Knit all around until the 4th round. That’s your increase round (rounds 3,7,11,15,19 and so on). The middle stitch (blue dots) of the 5 is used for the next increase.
Yes, that’s the middle stitch of the 5. I hadn’t seen this increase at the raglan before and I like it. Looking forward to seeing your Bluebell when you finish!
