I am knitting a toy lamb and need to make bobbles, could someone please advise if I am following the pattern correctly as I’m not sure about the instructions in brackets .
In row 6 , for example, , I’m unsure as to whether I’m supposed to repeat the first instruction of k1b, at the start of the 6 times I repeat the instructions in brackets?? Something is definitely going wrong atm
The repeat is only the directions in brackets,. Don’t add anything else. So on row 6 it’s [kfb,k1b] 6x.
After you work the k1b once, work the brackets 6x and then end with another k1b.
Bobbles are certainly critcal for Lionel.
Knit into the front and back of the same stitch twice. That means knit into the front, into the back and again into the front and then into the back. All that without letting the stitch come off the left needle.
Now turn and purl 4.
Turn and k2tog, k2tog.
Pass the first stitch over the second just as you do in a stitch over stitch bind off.
You’ll be back to one stitch again.
This video shows the knit into the front, back and front again. You would need to do this and add another knit into the back step before slipping the stitch off the left needle.
Holes within the bobble may be ok because you have the increased sts to cover them. Holes on each end of the bobble are due to the turns which force a disconnection between the bobble sts and those before and after the bobble. That’s ok too.
The pattern clearly wants you to k2tog twice and the stitch count agrees with that (2sts remain).
This is my practice on scrap wool, but is on k look larger needles and wool is chunky. Don’t know if it’s clear enough, and I have 13 stitches instead of 12??
OK, maybe an extra edge stitch? Do you start the bobble with a single stitch and end with one stitch? That should be the way to check that you’re on track.
I see one stitch, the fifth from the top in your photo, that seems to be hanging out by its lonesome and the rest seem to be in twosies. My first thought is to see why that one’s different from the others. I’m wondering if it might be an unintended yo. That comes to mind because I’m so good at making them.
The other bobbles look fine. As long as you start the bobble knitting into one stitch and end it with one stitch you should be ok. Your stitch count will remain the same and the bobbles on later rows will line up correctly.
The fact that you have only one stitch extra means that you must be doing everything correctly with maybe one mistake somewhere, a random error. There’s not a consistent mistake in the way you’re working the bobbles.
If you want, try another row of bobbles on the scrap yarn but I’d say you’re good to go! Have fun with this adorable pattern.
