Quick, Dumb question about knitting with a double strand

I’m a beginner and have just started on the clogs. Hopefully I don’t sound too stupid asking this, but I’m assuming that when they say to cast on 61 stitches using a double strand that you do exactly what it says. But when I go to start knitting that strand, it’ll look like there are two stitches where there are only one. Do I knit the pair of stitches as if they were one or do I separate them? I hope that question makes sense. I’m sure that as I make these I’m going to have lots of dumb questions. I’ve never knitted in the round before.

No dumb allowed!!

Just treat your two strands as if they were one. After a while you won’t even notice that you’re using two.

That’s what I thought but I wanted to make sure before I started. Thanks for answering my question so quickly Ingrid!
