Question on Short Row

Hi! I think I have the technique on “how to” do the short row down. What has got me though is where I have to do it.
I’m working on a tank, and the pattern wants me to add the short row for the bust area. I don’t know if I’m suppose to continue the pattern while doing it? Can someone answer a couple of questions I have?
On the purl side, do you ALWAYS purl regardless what my pattern wants? Plus, those 3 stitches before starting, and on the return of the short row, do I do nothing with them? Also, if the pattern asks to do as many short rows that I need for B or C cup, do I keep doing the short rows and get them over with, or will I skip a certain amount of rows and do the process all over again?

I hope I’m making sense on what I’m asking. lol. Basically, my pattern didn’t explain what I’m to do with the nice stitches I have going on while doing a short row. They are not just straight knits or purls.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

You would do the short rows in the same pattern as the body, which means you’d do the WS rows however the pattern is written. Leave the ones on the edges for now, you’ll pick them up later on. I don’t know about the other question you have.

Thanks for the help! You’ve answered my question. I searched for similiar question like mine, but only found that I purl on the return and knit on the other. Didn’t see any that had a pattern stitches other than that involved.

Thanks Again!

You’re welcome! Those other patterns with short rows were likely in stockinette, so that’s why they show you purl on the WS row. Check out knitty.com’s Calorimetry - it uses short rows in ribbing, though it doesn’t have you wrap the turning stitches.
