Question on patter

Hi my name is Sandi and I have a question on a vest I am going to knit. The pattern calls for garter stitch through out but I would like to do the vest in stockinette. I have yarn already and was wondering if I would need more yarn doing stockinette over garter stitches.

Thank you very much for helping me out.

Sincerely, Sandi

Hi Sandi and welcome to the forum!
You may not use all the yarn that you have. Garter stitch is a denser stitch pattern than stockinette and so takes more yarn. Just be careful about curling edges. Garter lies flat while stockinette curls if left to itself.
