hello
I am starting the colonia cropped cardi for a woman. i am using Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek chunky yarn which was listed on Yarnsub as a substitute since the yarn recommended is discontinued. The back calls for just 57 stitches for the small. The front panels are cast on 31 stitches - my cast on rowfor the back seems to just be half the width that the diagram shows - 23 “ do I just keep going and see it works out?
You pobably need to check your gauge and needle sizes if it’s woking out significantly smaller than expected.
I’d probably use what is cast on as a decent sized swatch. It may seem large for a swatch but if it’s only 57 sts across it’s not a lot to work to get to a good square which you can measure.
It should be giving 57cm or 22 to 23 inches as you said.
Have you worked more than the cast on row? That often looks small but reached the full length after several rows. The yarn looks like a good substitute. What size needle are you using?
Creations advice to work a large swatch is good and by continuing you’ll have that swatch or see that the size is closer to the schematic.
thank you, I will keep going and see what happens. The pattern says US 15 needles - i started the ribbing with US 13 and plan to switch to US 15 for the body. Iappreciate your response
thanks I agree not a lot of stitches so I will keep it going -pretty new to anything but blankets and animals and ornaments so I appreciate the insights!

Another thought, you might just need a looser or stretchier cast on edge. You’ll be able to tell once you’ve worked more.
