Question about cape cod sweater for men

my grandmas confused about the pattern any help would be greatly appreciated.

stripe pattern:
rows 1&3(rs):K
rows 2&4: P
rows 5&6:K
rows 7&9:k
rows 8&10:P
rows 11-16:K
rep rows 1-16 for stripe pattern

Back: with straight needles, cast on 99(108,113)sts. work in garter st(k every row)for 8 rows. Row 1(rs): K 5, place marker,k 89(98,103)place marker K 5. keep 5 sts @ each edge outside markers in garter stitch for slit edges

question my grandma has is does she put a marker after every 5 stitches?

thanks

You only need 2 markers: one after the first 5sts, knit to the last 5 sts, place the second marker and then knit the last 5sts. The markers are a reminder to keep the first and last 5 sts in garter stitch.

Very good-looking sweater!

my grandma understand your suggestion, thanks a bunch
