Question about a Yarnspiration Easy Pattern called Caron All Day Big knit Cardi…

I was gifted some yarn by my neighbour some time ago and am just getting around to making something with it. A comfy-looking cardigan. I picked the above pattern as it called for a #6 yarn and this yarn is that #. I am having trouble with the front panel, I guess is what it would be called. The pattern under Body has several rows. It started on Row 1 (rs) with K1, P1, K1. Repeat from to end of row. The 2nd row is where I am stuck. It reads: (Sl1Pwyif. K1) 5 times. P1, K1. Repeat from to last 11 sts. p1, (K1. S1Pwyif) 4 times. K1, P1. Row 3 is S1. P1. Repeat from to end of the row.

When I did this the stitches don’t line up - I come to the 1st stitch after the “slip 1 stitch with yarn in front” and it doesn’t match up with the next stitch because I am supposed to be at a purl stitch and it is a knit stitch.

Eek! This was supposed to be an easy one, not like the last one. I am stymied. help

The first row will end p,k,p,k. When you turn to row 2, the last k will look like a purl and be slipped. The next stitch (was purl on the front) will look like a knit and be knit.
Check that you have the correct number of cast on sts for your size. It should be an odd number beginning and ending with a k on row 1.
