I am knitting a sweater in the stockinette stitch (knit one row, pearl one row). I am working on the back of the sweater now. I achieved the required length. The pattern says I should begin shaping the armholes. It says, “cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows.”

Is “cast off” the same as “bind off?” If so, do I bind off the same way on the pearl side as i do on the knit side? In other words, do I knit the first two stitches, lift the bottom stitch over the top stitch, then pearl the rest of the row?

Cast off and bind off are the same thing.

If you are going to doing set in sleeves (seamed) then that edge won’t make any difference.

I like to purl the 2 sts when binding off on the purl side.
