Q: Who has actually knit a bathing suit?

In my quest for the perfect bathing suit pattern I have read old blogs of people in the same search…ah, a knitted bikini (or suit)
Where are those people? Anyone actually do it sucessfully? And if so, I demand a picture of proof! :hmm:

I won’t be knitting ANY bathing suit for myself in this lifetime.:teehee:

Well, sorry, no pics, and the suit is probably long gone, but when I was in high school (70’s) I knit a bikini. The top was two triangles on a string and the bottoms were regular bottoms. It was good except that the bottoms would stretch when wet so I had to be careful getting out of the water. It was made of sport yarn, turquoise and I loved it! Good luck in your quest!

I just looked on Ravelry and there are quite a few patterns and people knitting them. Not near as much as other projects though.

Here’s a few of the patterns that I found there.
Queen of Hearts Bikini from Stitch and Bitch Knitter’s Handbook
Blue Suede Bikini for Sexy Little Knits
Lanikai Bikini from http://www.knitwhits.com/online_store/bikinis/lanikai.php

I would knit myself a speedo but I have far too much empathy for my fellow human beings.

Bah, let them suffer. I’d pay to see that.

I’m betting you’d pay more to cover it up

LMAO, and I`d pay to see it too! BUT a speedo out of scratchy wool would not go over too well. I have to wonder if the movement of swimming would cause felting… hmmmm (ouch).

:roflhard:

stares into her Knitted-Crystal-Ball and waves hands I see an emergency room trip in the future…ooOoooOOoo…

There’s a knitty pattern,White Trash it’s called I think. Mum had a crochet bikini in her teens and several knitting swim suits as a child - cold weather made her loose her dignity through and the kid costumes she remembers as being very heavy once they got wet.

Haha okay yes, I see a lot of nervous people out there not daring to show their knitting skills in the form of a bikini …or ahem, speedo. Okay okay, even if I am alone in this endeavor, I shall conquer it! :giggle: Can’t wait to show it to you guys: the first bikini that doesn’t fall down when wet!

Knitty Gritty had a show on knitted swimwear. I keep thinking they would probably be better for laying around the pool than actual swimming but the designer swore you could swim in it. Here is the pattern

The book Greetings from Knit Cafe has a bikini…it looks cute…

I’ve never knit a bathing suit :teehee: not on my to do list…

I have knit a bikini before, but it wasn’t for me lol!! Actually it wasn’t for a HUMAN at all!! It was for a manaquin!

She seemed to like it lol!!
Here’s my proof:

I got the Pattern out of SNB book and the pattern was super easy, but, my only probem was “Roxanne” (that’s the manaquin’s name) lived 2 1/2 hours away from me and my step-mom kinda guessed on her measurments. I really should of made her top bigger. The bottoms worked good though. They fit me lol!! I heard that you can sew a pair of undies into the bottoms and that will help them stay on. Good LUCK!!!

Okay Spooky, a manequin?? There’s a story there! Spill! What were you doing knitting a bathing suit for a manequin?? And does she still wear it?
:-P!

LMAO!! Well, Roxanne doesn’t live with me. She lives at my Dad’s house… wait a minute… that doesn’t sound good… she’s my step-mom’s life size Barbie Doll! I showed up one day and there she was… standing in front of the bird cages. LOL!! Now I’ve seen it all!! What won’t my step-mom buy? I can’t remember what gave me the idea to knit her a bikini. I think it was a cold month and I was just bored. I’m pretty sure Roxanne pulls out her suit every once in a while. I think she’s been replaced with the new I-phone. Shhhhh!! Don’t tell her though!! She hasn’t figured it out yet lol!!

Me and her are still tight, though!!

Ah! I was just getting over the trauma of seeing my brother in a speedo for swimming (actually, part of the trauma was that he’s grown out of the phase where he’s just the scrawny white-white kid - with shin guard tan lines - and I can throw him across the room if I want to… all of a sudden he’s six feet tall with a six pack and a tan…) and now it’s been replaced by a knit one that’s STRETCHY.
I’m off to gauge my eyes out.

ETA: My grandparents have a manequin too, his name is Henry. He and Roxanne should hook up!

LOL!!! That is too funny!! Well, tell Henry that Roxanne likes walks in the park and quiet afternoons with a good book. Her favorite flower is dandelions and she’s allergic to coffee. Oh! And she cheats at UNO!!

Well, Henry is missing his legs, but enjoys sitting in the sun (and doesn’t mind a wheelchair roll through the park). He loves the fall, especially Halloween, and is quite gifted at practical jokes. lol!
