Purse snaps for felted tote

I’ve been looking online for magnetic purse snaps for my felted tote bag. However, the only ones that I can find are the ones with teeth that you stick through the fabric. I don’t think those will work for my bag. Has anyone ever seen magnetic ones that you sew on?

This is the type that I have too- are you going to put a lining in it? IF SO, the snaps go in the lining and you don’t see them on the outside.

No, I wasn’t going to line it. Sewing on buttons pretty much sums up my sewing expertise.
Oh, well… I’ll keep looking. Maybe I’ll go to town this weekend and asks the ladies at the YS.

Since it’s felted… you can SEW A BUTTON ON and cut a slit (careful it’s not too big) as a buttonhole… works fine… cause the felted material won’t unravel.

Did you already felt it? If not you can just knit another few inches so you can make a flap, fold it over and just slide the magnit in there.

I use those magnets you poke through and then glue(epoxy glue) on a decorate stone over the poky things after they are bent over the felted yarn.Never had anything fall of yet. That apoxy glue will hold anything together.Adds decoration to the outside of bag too:woot::woohoo:

You can always just sew a little square of fabric into the bag for the snaps. One of my books suggests this…can’t remember which one.

Thanks Momwolf!
That is a terrific idea! Maybe gluing on some wooden buttons would work…
I like the idea of making a button hole too, but I would like for the bag to be easy to open and close.
Thank you all for the ideas. It was keeping me awake last night and I thought, “I’ll just ask the KH’ers in the morning…”.

is this the kind you mean…they sew on and are magnetic!!! I’ve used them for a purse and they work fine…

hope that helps

Thank you holamiis! I checked my JoAnn’s yesterday, but they didn’t have the kind you sew on. I’ll drive to Dallas this weekend and see if they have them. :cheering:

I’ve never seen the sew on kind. I’ve used the prongs that poke thru many times. I’ve sewn a decorative button over top of it to hide the prongs, and a couple times knit and felted flowers and sewed them over the prongs.

Ok, here’s what I did: I did put lining in (but, what I did will work w/out a lining- this particular purse wasn’t felted)

and I used one of those magnetic prong types… (I put it in the lining as I had mentioned in my earlier post) but, then I sewed this button on the outside of each side… and it is the method that I had already employed on purses that I did felt… and didn’t line the felted purse.

Just sew the button on the outside where the prongs will show… here’s an example of what to do and how it will look. (Just pretend- I don’t have the lining) I have a button on both sides…

Oooo what a great idea!! The button kinda hides the magnet how cool

Yes, it works out great. On one purse… I found awesome decorative pins and I just used them on both sides instead of sewing a button on the purse to hide the magnetic prongs.
