Purl Stitch

Is there some secret to knitting purl. It does not come easy to me, and my hand seems to get tried fast when I have to switch back and forth between knit and purl.

Any suggestions. Or is it just practice makes perfect?

I used to have the same problem. Purl was so awkward for me that it took me months to become comfortable with it. Unfortunately it is practice. As my DH used to tell his sculpture students, just do it, do it all the time.

It just takes lots of practice. It’s hard until it becomes easy. I spent the better part of a day doing row after row of purls until mine stopped looking like twice warmed crap.

I found it much easier to purl when I learned to knit continental, but millions of others do it just fine knitting English style.

Stick with it.

Ditto for me - both ways. I purled just fine English style, but it is much faster Continental style.

You will learn - patience, grasshopper!

Yup…just do it and do it all the time!

“Seed Stitch”…and “ribbing” are especially tiring because the yarn gets slung forward then backward, forward then backward…etc.

However…with stocking stitch…or reverse st st…one side is all knit stitches…and the other side is all purl stitches. You do get your groove goin’ eventually! Really.

Same here. My knitting/purling really started to fly when I learned continental, I was all thumbs trying to knit and especially purl english. But yeah, practice makes perfect and you’ll eventually ‘get it’ and it will be so mindless that you can do it while watching your favorite tv show.

You guys are being real supportive, so I will not give up on the purl.

I do love this knitting thing, and everyone on this forum does such nice projects. I will just keep practicing.

Thanks
