Needing clarification! Am knitting in the round. I have 158 stitches on my needle. According to the pattern I will have decreased eight stitches over the four rows, and repeat this 17 times.
The pattern says that after one more decrease of essentially 4 stitches I will have 10 stitches left. I don’t understand how I get to that number.
Surely 17 x 8 =136 , leaving 22 stitches on the needle stitches (+4 for last two rows)?, so 18?
Starting with 158, the first 4 rows dec by 8sts to 150sts.
Then the next 17 repeats dec by 136sts to 14sts.
The final repeat of rows 1 and 2 dec 4sts to 10sts.
Looks like a nice thick pot holder. Thank you for the pattern info.

Anytime. We’d love to see a photo when you finish.
Is there a reason seaming the open edges is preferable to a three needle bind off on this pattern?
The “open edges” are the cast on here and don’t have live sts. You might work a provisional cast on then use the live sts for a neat 3 needle bind off.

The question from GG (post #5) was about the finishing technique on the potholder.
How is the pattern working out for you?
Really well. A lovely pattern, simple and effective!
