Purl into next stitch?

Hi
I am making a shawl with a lace stitch. I am stumped here.
The pattern readsk1, Sl2 pwise, k2 tog, pass 2slipped sts. over, k, p, k, p into next stitch rep from * to last stitch, k1. What does purl into the next stitch mean? Is it an increase?? How do I do it ? Thanks so much.

k, p, k, p into next stitch means to do all four: knit into the stitch, without slipping it off the needle, then purl, without slipping it off the needle, then knit, then purl and slip the stitch off the needle. It creates four stitches from one stitch.
