Purl dash lines

Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and fairly new to Knitting. I have an issue that’s driving me crazy! It’s about how to avoid purl dash lines when changing colour in a pattern, when knitting something where you don’t want to have a right or wrong side (is this even possible?) eg a blanket or scarf. I know how to make sure the dash lines are on the wrong side of something, but I don’t want the marks on either side of a scarf or blanket. Surely both items should be reversible and look the same both sides, just like when you buy them? TIA!

Unless you’re backing it or folding the fabric over to hide the back, I don’t think you can avoid the dashed lines from colour changes. Even shop bought jumpers I’ve had show the lines in the back if they’re stripy, unless the yarn itself was self striping.

Thanks for replying! I know what you mean about jumpers (where it’s not an issue as you don’t see it) but I’ve never seen purl dash marks in any scarves or blankets I’ve bought. However as you say maybe they’ve used self striping yarn , I hadn’t even thought of that!
