Our group is taking a break for summer, but here is my latest addition to our give-away items:
Those hats are PRECIOUS!
Do you have any patterns? I can’t seem to find any that come out just right
My pattern was from the Lion Brand website (www.lionbrand.com).
Our grandson was a preemie and has just tuned three. All is well and good.
I figured that, after he was born, I owed some thanks to the universe, so I sat down and made a bag of preemie caps. I had fun trying out different designs and patterns.
You know what the nurse said was the best one??
Dull and boring K2, P2 because it would fit so many sizes.

OK, I can’t find that pattern! Can you help me out?

I think you’ve posted enough links here to keep me going for the next 10 years! :knitting::knitting::knitting::knitting::knitting::knitting::knitting::knitting::knitting::knitting:
Thanks so much for this post - I’d have spent ages mooching about the net looking for Preemie hats, so you’ve saved me a huge amount of time; I love the Shadow Stripes hat! :happydance:

You’re welcome, my friend!
Have fun making tiny baby hats!
Your hats are gorgeous.
Thanks for the premie hats links Sandy. I am knitting heaps of premie hats for South African babies. This is wonderful.
Thanks again
Sandy in N.Z.
You’re very welcome!
I just started knitting preemie hats last night and completed 2 already! Super fast knit.
My LYS collects for Caps to the Capitol around Christmas time, so I’ve gotten started on my bunch of wee little hats now too. Two done, one otn…
Thanks Shandeh for that shadow stripes pattern. I needed a change.
I am knitting preemie hats as well. Two done, another on the needles…my stash buster project. But they seem unusually small. I realize that preemies are tiny…but my hats seem doll size…are they really that tiny?
THANKS!
p.s. I have been following the patterns to a T…
You’re welcome!
My LYS in Tuscaloosa, AL has issued a ‘challenge’ to a yarn shop in New Orleans as to which one can make the most preemie hats by the Bama/LSU game. We already have over 125 hats!!!
If anyone is interested in sending one or two, send me a PM!!! :)
Excellent!
The preemies heads are very small. My son was 2 mos. premature but to look at him now you wouldn’t be able to tell, he is now 15 yrs. old.
If the hat will fit over an orange then it will fit a preemie…
Have a blessed day…
Yolanda
`When I found out our grandson was a preemie (and all turned out well), I sat down and started knitting preemie hats as my Gift of Thanks to the Universe.
I had a great time making every single one different only to be told that a 2 by 2 rib 2ould be the mot useful.
Ah well, the hat are for the hospital and the kids, not for my enoyment. Great things to carry along to meetings. Brainless knitting.
Margie
This is from the top of my head
Size small preemie CO 36-42 Stitches
Size MED-LG Preemie 44-54 sts
NB- 54-62 Sts
Work a Knit 1, Purl 1 across (single rib) or do a double rib (knit 2, purl 2 across) do this for 1 1/2-2 " (All the above is prefrence on what size hat you are making)
After your done with the rib stockenette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) repeat for 3-4 inches (depending on hat size your making)
then dec
you can knit 2 together across (on knit side of hat) then purl the next size
repeat dec row
purl across then cut yarn leaving a long tail put tail on yarn needle weave through stitches left on needle, pull off of needle then pull up tight. Sew up side and weave in ends.
You can do a different type of decrease but this is just a quickie hat pattern I use alot!
Hope it made since lolololol :roflhard:
