Prayer shawl advice

A student of mine is being hospitalized for 10 weeks due to anorexia. :frowning: I’d like to make her a prayer shawl, but I’m not sure what to make it with. I have some really lovely Malabrigo in my stash, but I don’t want it to go through the hospital washer and dryer and become the world’s nicest washrag. I also have plenty of cotton, and some nice Carons Simply Soft. There’s also some lace weight in there, but I thought something heavier might be more useful. I know she gets cold very easily, only weighing 90 pounds.

I’m thinking just a simple triangle shawl with a lacy edging. Any advice or ideas?

Use the SS, you can knit the Feather and Fan Comfort shawl at http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/shawls-shrugs/feather-and-fan-comfort-shawl.htm it looks good in one or several colors. Or the Simple shawl - http://www.cosmicpluto.com/blog/?p=443 doing a couple repeats of the F&F pattern on the last few inches of it.

I would use the Simply Soft since it can be washed and dried with no problem.

Erica, it’s so sweet of you to want to wrap some love around your student!

I’d go with the SS also, a hospital is no place for Malabrigo.
