Pockets

Hi

I am knitting a cardigan with pockets using a pattern I have already completed earlier this year but I am completely stumped at the instructions detailed below for the pockets! I can’t remember what I did but I clearly did it, very well in fact cause it looks great!
If anyone could give me a pointer to help jog my memory it would be much appreciated!

Instructions:
Nb this is the left front of the cardigan at the point where I have 25 stitches on the needle and working on the right side of the garment:

Divide for pocket
Next row: K5, knit across 18 sts left on a stitch holder for first pocket lining, turn, leave rem 20 sts on a stitch holder.
Working in first 23 sts only work 17 rows.[/I]

I get raft I am doubling up on 18 sts but I can not remember how on earth I did it!

Please help before I go crazy lol

Welcome to KH. Can you post a link to your pattern or tell us its name, where it’s from? I’m not sure what you mean by “doubling up on 18 sts”. Somebody else may be able to answer with the info you gave. Maybe this video will help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vp1k-2EvmY

I just mean that if I knit 5, then what do I do to knit across 18 on stitch holder. Once I turn, where do the nx 18 come from then to purl back along to the original 5 which makes then the 23 sts to proceed with? It’s just this divide I can’t get my head around… How do I knit those 18 and also leave 18 on a stitch holder? Total stitches is 25! Does this make sense? I will try and get a copy found online to help with but it’s just a baby cardigan with pockets!
Thank you for your help

Knit 5. You should have 18 sts on a stitch holder. Knit them. That makes 23. There should be an instruction to put other stitches on a holder, I think. You then work those 23 stitches on your needle - the 5 from your main needle and the 18 from the holder. The video shows putting the other stitches on a holder @ about 40 sec. I’m pretty sure that’s what you want to do.

Sort, I’m so frustrated with this!
I have one needle, 25 sts. I’m now at instructions divide for pocket.
I have knit 5.
Now I need to knit across 18 sts left on a stitch holder.
Does this mean I slip 18 sts across to holder then knit them? I tried This but it didn’t look right? I understand I need these 18 sts to be split so I can have the lining and the pocket seperate but I just don’t know how to divide them!

So sorry, I’m sure it’s something very simple that I am making too Much of! I did watch video but the pocket is never seperate from the cardigan in this pattern!

I really appreciate you trying to help me!

Can you link to your pattern? Or, what is it called and where did you find it?

I tried to upload pics but too big! It’s king cole 3515 double knit if that helps!

I can’t find it. Sorry. You can Google for sites to resize photos. I go here. http://www.picresize.com/ I just upload it to the site and tell it I want it smaller and automagically I get a smaller file.

Knit 5sts then slip the next 20sts to a stitch holder. In place of those 20sts, knit the 18sts (the pocket lining) that were previously placed on a stitch holder. You’ll now have 23sts on the working needles. Knit 17rows on these 23 sts.
Don’t worry about the 20sts that are held out at this point. You’ll get to them later, perhaps in Finishing. Maybe there’s a trim or ribbing to go on these sts.

This is cardigan.

I understand ur instructions, thank you.

I have knit 5 and slipped 20 sts to holder and have turned.

I do not have another holder with said 18 sts to knit after I turn… Am I knitting into the ones on above stitch holder? This was what I tried but looked wrong! But I don’t know where these stitches come from!

This must be something so simple as I am a beginner and have completed this previously! I could kick myself!!!

Sorry again!

Knit 5, slip the next 20 to a stitch holder but don’t turn yet. If you don’t have the pocket lining made then look in the pattern for the directions for the pocket lining. Make two of these. Once you have them you’ll be able to continue the row on the front by knitting the 18 pocket lining sts from the holder and then turning.
Keep asking questions and don’t worry about this. You have all of us here to help. We’ll get it to work no matter what.

Sorry it has taken me so long to your posts but the cloud has lifted and my pockets are done! I was clearly thinking about it way too much! Thank you for all your help! Much appreciated!
