Can anyone help, please? Lion Brand 3 Season Sweater Jacket. All went well until they tried to explain “Join pocket opening with pocket lining.” I have the two pocket linings made, and the yarn’s cut. I have the sweater front with 7 stitches on hold. It says the left front is being divided for pocket shaping and insertion. The directions say, “P across pocket lining st to last 2 sts, *p 1 pocket lining st tog with 1 sweater body st, keeping pocket lining st on top of body st…” and I’m already hung up. Am I knitting across the pocket lining with the little yarn I have left when it was cut? Am I joining the pocket lining to anything as I purl it? And where do I join at the sweater body? The first stitch on the holder closest to the middle? The last? I wrote to Lion for help and a better explanation, and they wrote back and said, “Just follow the pattern and all will be well.” It wasn’t well!!! Thanks for any advice, even advice on where to get advice.
Usually when you add a pocket lining, you work up to the pocket opening (where your stitches are on hold) with the yarn that’s making the sweater. Then you work across the pocket stitches with the same yarn, leaving a gap between the opening and the held stitches for the top of the pocket.
When you get to the last 2 stitches, you’re supposed to purl them together with 2 stitches from the sweater to make a secure join.
On your left needle you’ll have the sweater stitches, and on the right you’ll have the 2 stitches left. I think I’d slip the two from the right needle onto a dpn and lay it on top of the right needle, then work them together that way.
I made a vest that had similar pockets and I remember I was terribly confused the first time, too! I couldn’t visualize how the pockets could be attached to the back of the garment, but now that the vest is completed, I understand. Let me see if I can help you.
Thanks, Ingrid! I’ll go back with your directions in hand and try again. Appreciate it, much!
