Please help with a vest pattern!

I’m knitting the Hand in Hand Vest from Interweave Knits Summer 2007.

I’ve done the front and back but I’m confused about something in the pattern.

For both the front and back it says to bind off at the neck and armholes and it says [I]‘no sts rem’[/I].

That’s fine, but then when I went to join the 2 sides at the shoulders it says: [I]“Join shoulders with three-needle BO”[/I] and then continues with how to pick up stitches to knit the collar.

Don’t stitches have to be live to do a 3 needle BO? Or should I just seam them together?

HELP!

It must be an error in the pattern. I’d just seam them together.

I just went to the Interweave Knits site and checked under the “Help: Corrections” portion and it says that the first sentence should have been “sew shoulder seams together …”
