Please Help Turn Cast on for 2 needle mittens pattern

I am a beginner knitter and am having trouble with a pattern for mittens that came with my yarn. What does turn cast on 1 stitch mean and how do I do that? Is it simular to make one or do I do a single cast on stitch?
Any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you

can you give us a little more of the pattern, like a couple lines before and after where you’re stuck.
I’m thinking that if you’ve done the wrist part and you’re ready to start the thumb you’d turn your work to do the next row and then cast on however many they want you to for the thumb.

Mitts: Left Mitt: **Cast on 34 sts. 1st row: (RS). K2. P2. K2. Rep
from * to end of row. 2nd row: P2. K2. P2. Rep from * to end of
row. Rep these 2 rows (K2. P2) ribbing for 2½ ins [6 cm] ending on
a 2nd row. Work 4 rows in stocking st.

Shape thumb: 1st row: K15. (M1. K1) twice. Knit to end of row.
2nd and alt rows: Purl. 3rd row: K15. M1. K3. M1. Knit to end of
row. 5th row: K15. M1. K5. M1. Knit to end of row. 7th row: K15.
M1. K7. M1. Knit to end of row. 9th row: K15. M1. K9. M1. Knit to
end of row. 44 sts. 11th row: K27. Turn. Cast on 1 st. P13 (including
cast on st). Turn. Cast on 1 st. K14. ***Beg with a purl row, work
9 rows in stocking st.
Next row: (K2tog) 7 times. Break yarn. Thread end through rem sts.
Draw up and fasten securely. Sew thumb seam. With RS of work facing,
join yarn to last st on right hand needle. Pick up and knit 2 sts at
base of thumb. Knit across sts on left hand needle. 34 sts. Cont even
until work from top of ribbing measures 6 ins [15 cm] ending

11th row: K27. Turn. Cast on 1 st. P13 (including
cast on st). Turn. Cast on 1 st. K14. ***Beg with a purl row, work
9 rows in stocking st.

They want you to k27 then turn your work and cast on 1 then purl 13 (count the caston stitch as one of the 13 you purl) then turn again and cast on one again and then k14 including the latest co.

did that help?

Do I cast on as I would at the beginning of the project or is a make one a cast on stitch?

It depends how you cast on at the beginning. If you used the double cast on (aka long tail cast on) you can’t use that type mid-row. You can, however, use any of the single cast on methods decribed here. Backward loop, cable cast on, or knit-on cast on.

I used the double cast on method at the beginning I like that one because it looks more neat than the single. So I guess I will use the single cast on method. Thank you for your help.

Using the double cast on at the beginning is just fine - I hope you didn’t think I meant that. I always use double cast on unless otherwise called for. It’s just that mid-row you have to use a single cast on.

Hope you get it figured out!
