I am self drafting a top down tee in reverse stockinette with set in sleeves. I am at the part where I have to pick up stitches for the sleeves and make a sleeve cap with german short rows. I would like to pick up on the knit side, do the GSRs, then knit the sleeve and hope to turn it inside out when I am finished. I tried starting this for a few rows by picking up the stitches on the knit side but I am getting a ridge on the RS (purl side). Does anyone know a best way knit a sleeve on the WS (knit side) of reverse stockinette fabric while not getting a ridge on the purl side (RS), I am new to working with reverse stockinette.

Have you tried picking up sts purlwise with the knit side (WS) facing you? That would put the ridge due to the body sts to the knit side if thatâs the ridge that you mean.
This video shows picking up purlwise although in this case the purl side is facing. You would need to work the same way but with the knit side facing.

It only seems to show the bind off edge and for an armhole i think you want row edges but i just tried it and it works basically the same. Instead of going between the edge stitch and next stitch the stitch (which is a common way of picking up and knitting), go into only the outermost leg of the last stitch (or into the last stitch) wrap as though to knit, draw through. I think one edge of the armhole the V will fave one way and on the other side of the armhole it will be upside down, but either way go into it, or only under the outermost leg. The reverse stockinette should look good easier to see after a few rows.
I think the danger might be that it is a weaker pick up, sleeves tend to pull and get loose stitches and working into the outer stitch rather than between stitches might give less stability but it might be the only way to get the pick up you want. Perhaps give it a good tug on a swatch to check it can withstand the weight of the sleeve without distorting too much? Just a thought.
Sounds fun, Iâm interested though why would you want to work inside out? What are the benefits to this?
I am picking up from a bound off edge. I tried picking up on knit side by picking up and purling as per âsalmonmacâ suggested and this worked well. Thank you very much for your help.
