I don’t have a truly comfortable place to knit. Like Brooke, I knit at my computer alot. I find that I am fairly comfortable sitting here, and I also like to multi-task, stopping every couple of rows to read e-mail, post on my message board (I co own a christian homeschooling support website), or read the messages and post here.
I like to sit in the living room with my dh while he watches tv, and knit, but I can only sit for so long in the recliner before I start getting really stiff in my hip joints. The couch isn’t comfy to me at all (for knitting, anyway). I do sit outside in the early evenings with my dh and knit some, but once our temperatures start warming up, that won’t be an option.
I’ve been thinking I’d like to buy a new ladies sized recliner. It’s not in the budget right now, but an elderly lady I sometimes sit with has one, and I often knit in it when I’m staying with her. It’s sized for a shorter person (like me  ). My feet touch the ground, and my neck rests at a comfortable place on the back of it. It also reclines for when I want to put up my feet. It is truly a knitter’s chair.
A few months ago my husband and I went to a little town in our area and wandered into an antique store. We were ‘just looking,’ but came upon a beautiful wood rocking chair that had been reupholstered. Neither of us liked the pattern of the upholstery, but we loved the chair. I sat down and it was so comfortable!
We didn’t have it in our budget and, really, it wasn’t the style we were intending to put in our living room (where I usually knit), so we slowly dragged ourselves away from it. Later, walking around the town, we both started talking about it again. So, brilliant me, I said, “If we get a new chair, I have to be able to knit in it.” I was fairly new to knitting, so hadn’t really found a good ‘spot’ yet. So, in I go to try ‘the’ knitting position. Lo and behold, the arms were low in back, leaving plenty of space for my elbows and was per-fect for knitting. {Sigh} So, we bought it and I begged a friend to take us back the next weekend in his truck to pick it up.
I love it! But…I still hate the upholstery. (We call it ‘grandma print.’) But I decided that, when I’m finished with the trillions of other projects I’m dying to do, I’ll knit something for it. Oh, well. It does match the room, colorwise. LOL
I also have an older wooden rocking chair with a broken arm that is impossible to knit in, so I’ve decided to take off the arms and move the rocker to the tv room. I think I’m a rockin’ knitter… :roflhard:
Kdavies, that’s hilarious! Sounds like you got a god find though!
I, too, often knit with my feet propped up. We have a boomerang-shaped coffee table, and it’s the perfect height for our 15 dollar ugly-orange-70s-flower-print auction chair (that i LOVE).
Rock On Kathy! – my favorite spot is an antique rocking chair next to my bedroom window. I put it at an angle near my bed, and then use the corner of my bed as a foot rest!
I have a reclinable couches too, so feet up is great. Also sit, well slouch is more like it, on the patio in a wonderful 1920s chair/desk, kinda like the desks you had in school, but it has a shelf next to the seat (great for beverages) and a magazine type rack on the side too. I like the desk part cuz I can put my pattern on it and it holds an ashtray too!!! Yes, I’m one of those nasty smokers. :help:
