Peaches vs. Sugar (N Cream)

Can anyone tell me if there’s a difference between the Peaches N Cream cotton yarn and the Sugar N Cream cotton yarn? I want to knit up some dishcloths for Christmas gifts, and I’ve found the Sugar N Cream at my local Michael’s, but haven’t spottent the Peaches.

This is my first experience knitting with cotton, and the Sugar N Cream is a bit stiff to work with. I’m just wondering if the Peaches N Cream is any different.

Thanks in advance for your help folks!

Well, I thought Peaches and Cream was just another term for Sugar and Cream…but guess what!? I was wrong!

HERE is a link to a Peaches and Cream FOR SALE website!

Now I too am curious about the differences!

I think Peaches and Cream is more likely to be found at walmart than the Sugar n’… Somewhere online I read that Peaches tended to shrink more than Sugar n’… after washing them… Some people find one less stiff than the other…

Peaches and cream is sold at Walmart; as far as I know, they’re the only retail store that carries it. They’re pretty much the same, though have different colors. Lion Cotton is similar too. They’re all stiff at first, but as you work with it and when the project is washed and dried a few times, the yarn becomes very soft. For something a little softer from the start, there’s Lion’s CottonEase with with acrylic and Bernat Cotton Tots.

I just bought some Peaches n Cream from Walmart to knit up some dishcloths for gifts and from just the feel of the skein I think the PNC is softer. I do not like knitting the Sugar N Cream because of how stiff it is. I’m hoping the PNC will be better, but won’t be finding out for a while. And I also like that it is cheaper.

Lily’s Sugar ‘n’ Cream brags that it “is the original thing”…the “real deal”…as in, don’t settle for knock-offs…in the ads I read online.

So, this makes me think: is Peaches ‘n’ Cream a knock-off…(not that it isn’t a good yarn!)…but that it arrived on the scene AFTER the success of Lily’s Sugar ‘n’ Cream?

I think it may be, but elmore-pisgah who makes it, has been around a while, it seems, and they do have other retailers. Read here http://www.elmore-pisgah.com/AboutUs.htm and here http://www.elmore-pisgah.com/retail_stores_selling_peaches1.htm

I have tried them both and like Peaches better because it’s softer.

As far as I’m concerned, they’re the same thing.

I havent noticed any real difference in them, only its harder to find peaches and cream than sugar and cream. BUT… you can get peaches and cream in double worsted for knitting rugs! Yay!

I never really noticed a difference. To tell you the truth, I can never remember which one I have in my stash. All I know is it has " n’ Cream" on it. :teehee:

It’s all the same to me.

I have knitted washcloths with both of them and there doesn’t seem to be a big difference. I would rather purchase SNC from Hobby Lobby (I have a Walmart aversion, not a PNC aversion), but for some reason there is practically none in stock!

PNC does seem softer. I have some balls of each at home … I will have to double check that after work.

I think the Peaches is softer. Not a lot but it is. I use both for dishcloths and can’t really see a difference in the performance of one over the other. I am liking all the new colors Sugar and cream has been coming out with. I love their self striping yarn!

I f you buy from the manufacturers website there are around 120 different peaches n’ cream colors. (ww, 2.0 and 2.5) I couldn’t find anwhere online that carried all of the sugar n’ cream colors. According to their website, there are 70 colors. (same weight, size as above)

Thanks for the info about Peaches being softer! I think I will try a cone of Peaches!

Sugar ‘n’ Cream is not at all what you could remotely call “soft”…smooth, but not soft.

If Peaches is “softer”…I think I will like it!

Thanks again!!

PS: I’ll hafta find another retailer that carries PNC other than Walmart. My DH has always disliked (could use a stronger term, but not necessary!) Walmart for their business tactics.

My junior year college granddaughter also dislikes Walmart for their aggressive business tactics in 3rd world countries. According to her information, they bully their way into the communities, and obliterate any local cottage industry competition.

I dunno.

Walmart has good products for good pricing, ya gotta give 'em that!

I stay away from Walmart because I have other shopping alternatives, such as K-Mart, Target and JoAnns for similarly priced products.

Not everyone has as many alternative options if they don’t live in larger communities and cities.

I just kind of use them interchangeably based on price, color & availability.

someone in a previous post listed the manufacturer’s retail web site. I can’t spell it, elsmore-pigah? I have ordered from them with quick shipping and lots of color choices. I don’t go to walmart either.

Thanks so much for the info everyone. I took a look at the PNC website - WOWWWW what a huge choice of colors. And the price is cheaper than the $1.99 I paid for the SNC at Michael’s (tho I know I’d need to calculate shipping in there too). At Michael’s they only had pastel colors (pale yellow, peach, baby pink, baby blue, etc.). I was really looking for some plum, olive green, brown even - couldn’t find any. I realize the colors will fade a bit in time and that’s ok by me. These cloths are going to be for gifts and I’m going to try to color coordinate to the recipient’s homes. I don’t know anyone who has a baby pink kitchen.

I like the Sugar and Cream better. I can almost always find it on sale where I shop and the colors are great. Plus, I don’t shop at Wal-Mart either, so no PNC for me.
