I am probably repeating this topic but I did do a search putting in patterns for men and got over 11 pages from the search for this site. So I will pose it anyway. I have lots of things I want to make for myself (finally) and my home plus friends but I have poor results in finding patterns for guys. My guys age from 24, 22 to soon to be 20. My twenty year old just got his learners permit and want to burn out my clutch,lol. But I want to make things for them as well as others. The other part is covered. Guys, well, is a different story. I found a toe up pattern on Ravelry but it listed none for men and my sons feet aren’t small. You name it for men and patterns are lacking. So where do I find nice sweater patterns, hats , etc? Where do you look? Do you create your own or do you have a favorite place to go? The kimono I am making for the clutch burner is a pattern for a shizuka which I have lengthened. All help is appreciated. I have tried Knitting and Crochet Pattern Central and surfed so much my pointer finger hurts.
About 3…4…? summers ago, knitty had a men’s issue, about a dozen or so patterns.
Are you on Ravelry? If not you should be. Most of the time it’s very easy to find patterns there for whatever you need.

I have searched KPC and no luck. Now Knitty, I haven’t really search. Yes, I am mathwizard on Ravelry. I must be asking the wrong questions there when I search because I haven’t had much luck. I will try again. My sons are fussy when it comes to what they wear. THANK YOU!
Have you tried Ravelry’s advanced search? Under Pattern, you can select Men’s, and also vests, cardigans, pullovers, socks, hats, etc. And under general, for craft, select Knitting.
You can also filter by yarn weight, fiber, yardage, needles and gauge, free or not, etc.
There are less patterns for men in general though. They do tend to be picky about things like…they can’t be too girly and they have to stand up to what guys do…work in garages, yards, cars, etc. Not that you shouldn’t try of course.

Usually women don’t have as much of a problem because they’ll make the guy patterns few guys would wear.
Same problem here. Best to learn how to design your own because in the least you will be modifying a large percentage of the acceptable patterns you do find.

Has a good bunch of patterns, but unless all your men are football players you’ll probably have to at least adjust the size.
This is exactly why I just try and make the stuff up myself.
Sometimes if you have an idea for what you want something to look like you can find a woman’s pattern for the general design (sweater for example) and modify the stitch counts and shaping for a guy.
Let’s face it, there really isn’t that much difference between a man’s sweater and woman’s except for the bust area, colors, and frilly extras. My own sweaters are pretty much made up on the fly but the basic construction is based on reading many, many sweater patterns to understand the basic construction.
As for socks, it’s just a matter of color and size. You just calculate the number of stitches needed based on desired diameter and length, using your gauge. The rest would be exactly the same.

As or patterns, I just bought “Knits for Men: 20 Sweaters, Vests and Accessories by Margaret Hubert” from Knitpicks online as they are having a sale. I love that you can see inside the books on their site.
I am going to give it a try as well as some designing because my three sons are very picky when it comes to clothes. I am using a couple of books to help with socks. One is by Ann Budd and the other is by Antje Gillingham for making both socks on a set of circular needles. Crocheting a sweater doesn’t have the fine weave knitting does and their patterns for men lacks also.
Thank you for all the help and suggestions. I was going to make them colorful socks but the clutch burner was saying real men don’t wear those colorful socks. Little does he know, lol!!!:woot::cheering:
I think all fasteners are reversed between the sexes as a hold over from the days of old.
Yeah, but that’s easy to reverse, and doesn’t count for pullovers.
Good point and one I forgot to mention. I prefer pull overs anyway
