Pattern size increase?

Hello all.

Does anyone know how to convert a pattern to a larger size? My Dad wants a cabled fisherman’s sweater, but he’s a big guy. He wears a 3XLT and I can’t find a pattern anywhere near large enough. Is there a way to make one I find (and like) bigger?

TIA!

Have you tried ample-knitters.com? If it’s an all-over design it’s more difficult to convert something that’s cabled and keep the repeats proportioned, balanced. If a simple cable in just a few places you could easily increase the width and length by adding sts, rows. Do you have pic of sweater you intend to make?

You could try this. It is good general instructions for top-down Aran sweater or cardigan. easy to adapt to any size or style, using any stitch pattern or cables you desire. just requires some basic maths.
