Pattern Question - what do I do "twice"?

Here is an excerpt from a butterfly pattern I’m knitting in an afghan:

(RS). K2. K2tog. (yfwd) twice. Sl1. K1. psso. K19. K2tog. (yfwd) twice. Sl1. K1. psso. K2.

My question is regarding the word “twice.” Am I supposed to knit everything before the words “twice” 2 times? Or, do I just do what’s right before the words “twice” 2 times (i.e. do 2 yarn fowards)? I think what’s throwing me off are the periods after every stitch.

Thanks. :knitting:

Generally, you only do any instructions within the parentheses immediately preceding the word “twice”. so in this case, you’d yarn forward (yarn over) twice.

The periods are kind of unusual–I don’t recall having seen that in a pattern before, but maybe they are just to separate the individual instructions or to indicate abbreviations. (?)

The twice refers to whatever is in the parentheses before it.
