Pattern Help

Hello, I am currently knitting from a UK pattern and I am confused about what I am supposed to do next.

I am making the TINY TANK TOP from Dorling kindersley baby and toddler knits.
The pattern reads as follows :

Shape back neck
Next row: K12, turn and leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Next row: P to end.
Next row: K to last 3sts, K2tog, K1.
Next row: P to end 11sts.
Shape shoulder.
Cast off.
etc…

I do not know what I am supposed to do when it says "SHAPE SHOULDER"
I would really appreciate it if someone could explain…!

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum!
That is a puzzler. Usually the back and front shoulders are shaped in the same way. Do the instructions tell you anything about shaping the shoulders on the front?
If not you could bind off the 11sts at this point for the shoulder or you could leave them on scrap yarn and use 3 needle bind off to join them to the front shoulder when you finish that part.

Thanks for your speedy reply!

Well i have got down to 11sts and i did wonder whether i could just ignore the line “shape shoulder” as it doesn’t really mean anything to me but then i watched the video about sloped bind off and wondered whether thats what it means…?!

I like the idea about the 3 needle bind off.

Yes, I have to do the same on the front shoulders…

Shape Front Neck
Next row: K16, turn and leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Next row: P to end.
Next row: K to last 3sts, K2tog, K1.
Next row: P to end.
Rep the last 2 rows x 4 (11sts).
Work straight until front measures same as back to shoulder, ending at armhole edge.
Shape shoulder.
Cast off.

Usually when a pattern says “shape shoulder” the directions for doing so follow. It could be either a sloped shoulder or straight across. You could do either but for a tank top, a straight shoulder would work.
Is this the pattern?

It looks pretty straight across the shoulder. It may be that the directions for shaping the shoulder are to bind off all sts.

This is the book that I am using

but it might be the same pattern…

Thank you for your help. I have looked closely at the picture and i too, think i will got away with a straight edge.

Hello there - in the UK when it says for example ‘Shape Shoulder’, that is just a heading and the instructions that follow are how you shape the shoulder. Good luck
