Hi i need some help please. I’m knitting a ladies cardigan. And I am stuck on the shape neck and continue to shape shoulders. My problem is I’m doing the largest size and have 74 stitches at the end of shape shoulders which is correct. What I don’t understand how you end up with 9 stitches each side after only 3 rows decreasing to my count just 14 stitches. Am I missing something.
Welcome to the forum!
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
The major part of the decrease in stitch number is the bind off of the center 40sts.
Starting at Row 1 under Shape Neck and Continue to Shape Shoulders with the RS facing you, bind off 6sts, work to the center 40sts and bind them off using a new ball or end of yarn. Work to the end of row.
On the left shoulder WS row, bind off 6sts, work to the center gap and drop the working yarn. Pick up the yarn end attached to the right shoulder, bind off 2sts and work to the end of row. Turn and bind off the remaining 9sts.
Pick up the yarn strand attached to the left shoulder, bind off 2sts, work to the end of row. Turn and bind off the remaining 9sts.
Thank you so much I was placing a marker either side of stitch 40! Now I get it. I’ve been knitting for years but just couldn’t get the pattern. Now I do. Thank you xx
Great! Thanks for the pattern information and have fun working the rest of the cardigan.
That’s a lovely stitch pattern. I hope you will post a pic of your cardigan when you’re finished.
I like the stitch pattern too!
