Pattern help

Hi,

I am working on this pattern. I don’t understand what the issue is. The 1st row instructions is not adding up to 154 (large). stitches which is the size I have chosen. I have had to take it apart several times already.

Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). (P1. Work 1st row Panel Pat A) 0 (1-0-1-0-1) time. P4 (2-2-2-4-2). Tw2R. P2. (Work 1st row Panel Pat A. P2. Tw2R. P2) 2 (2-3-3-4-4) times. Work 1st row
Panel Pat B. P2. Tw2R. P1. Work 1st row Panel Pat C. P1. Tw2R. P2. Work 1st row Panel Pat B. (P2. Tw2R. P2. Work 1st row Panel Pat A) 2 (2-3-3- 4-4) times. P2. Tw2R. P4 (2-2-2-4-2). (Work 1st row Panel Pat A. P1) 0 (1- 0-1-0-1) time.

When I follow this pattern for 1row I end up not being able to finish with the pattern. Is there an error in the pattern? I got it from Yarnspirations honeycomb Aran pattern.
Panel A 6 sts, panel B 13 sts, panel C 34 sts

Thanks

The first row for the 3rd size becomes:
1st row: (RS). P2. Tw2R. P2. (Work 1st row Panel Pat A. P2. Tw2R. P2) 3 times.
Work 1st row Panel Pat B. P2. Tw2R. P1.
Work 1st row Panel Pat C. P1. Tw2R. P2.
Work 1st row Panel Pat B. (P2. Tw2R. P2. Work 1st row Panel Pat A) 3 times. P2. Tw2R. P2.

That adds up to 154sts. Are you working the beginning and end sts which are actually skipped in the pattern for your size? If there is a 0 or a - or x for your size, skip that direction.

This is a link to a knit-a-long which may be helpful now or in future.

The pattern was revised in April 2022 so if you have an older version, you might download the latest just in case there were errors.

I think I figured out what I did wrong. I thought the P4 meant P4 2 times for my size.
Thank you l will try again.

Ah, that might just do it. Good for you for figuring it out. These patterns with multiple sizes aren’t always easy to work through. Come back if there’s still a problem and of course, we’d love to see a photo when you finish. I have this pattern in my favorites.

There is a problem with Size Medium - I have a total of 144 stitches with the increases and is now on my 2nd row to work and there are a total of 150 stitches - 6 extra stitches. I am using the pattern that was updated in July 29, 2024. Thanks

For the size M you cast on 115 and then for the increase row, add 29 more sts for a total of 144sts. The math for the panels and sts indeed adds up to 144. Check back over the increase row to see if perhaps you added more sts?

The first row doesn’t have any increases in it.
The pattern for the first row is
1st row: (RS). (P1. Work 1st row Panel Pat A) 1 time. P2. Tw2R. P2. (Work 1st row Panel Pat A. P2. Tw2R. P2) 2 times. Work 1st row Panel Pat B. P2. Tw2R. P1. Work 1st row Panel Pat C. P1. Tw2R. P2. Work 1st row Panel Pat B. (P2. Tw2R. P2. Work 1st row Panel Pat A) 2 times. P2. Tw2R. P2.
(Work 1st row Panel Pat A. P1) 1 time.

Go over the stitches to make sure you didn’t add any increases along this row. The panels don’t have increases. Markers between each panel will help isolating the different panel stitches. I’ve made this pattern in a different size and the stitch counts did work out.

When I say increases I meant at the end of the ribbing - I had to increase 29 stitches which total 144. I did the 1st row without any issue but the 2nd row stitches added up to be 150. I went through what you have listed above for the 1st row and all is good. I will recount the stitches for the second row.

Thanks for your help

Yes, 144 is correct. Row 2 of the pattern for size L also adds up to 144sts.
Place markers as you name the sts and see if that helps.
1+6 (panel A)
6
[6 (panel A) + 6] x2
13 (panel B)
5
34 (panel C)
5
13 (panel B)
[6 +6 (panel A)]x2
6
6 (panel A)+1

These first few rows can be challenging until you establish the pattern. It all goes more smoothly after that.
