Hi! I’m working on the pattern below and I just joined in the round and am getting ready to work row 1. However, looking at the picture, it seems like there should be a few rows ahead of row 1 to get that border (garter stitch?) before the lace that row 1 makes where the skirt starts. Can someone please take a look and see if I’m just reading it wrong or if I should add a few rows? And if I should add rows, can you tell me what to do because I’m still a novice
thank you so much!
Cute dress.
You did well to spot that the pattern isn’t written as the picture shows.
There are comments about this on Ravelry, it seems 2 or 3 versions were released as translations and the eyelet row is in the English version.
Some of the dresses pictured on ravelry have a garter band on the sleeve and plain body, some have eyelets on the sleeve and body, some have eyelets on the sleeve, plain body. There is a variety.
Some knitters have worked this first eyelet row and some have not, either they just followed the different patterns they had or saw the difference as you have and decided to eliminate this eyelet pattern.
Here’s a version with the eyelets right across that row
So, if you like it you can go ahead with the instruction in the pattern and make the eyelet row or make it plain stockinette.
If you don’t like it then work this round using stockinette instead of the eyelet stitch, that is replace the (yo, k2tog) with just knits. The stitch count won’t alter, you still need to work the rest of the round knitting to each marker, work kfb, slip marker etc.
All the versions are very pretty.
I hope this helps
That is a sweet little dress that will look adorable on.
The garter stitch at the hem is a good idea as it will help keep the hem from rolling due to stockinette stitch in the main body. Work 6-8 rows of garter stitch in the round. That’s one round knit, one round purl in order to see the garter stitch pattern.
It’s a top down pattern. The join in the round comes after a buttoned opening at the back neck, in the yoke, not long before the divide for sleeves.
Many thanks.
Thank you both so much!!
