I am knitting a bottom up baby cardigan and am having trouble understanding the directions for beginning the neck shaping. The sweater is not knit in the round. The direction is as follows:
“Dec row 3 (RS) Knit to second marker, sl marker, k1, ssk, k to 3 sts before next marker, k2tog, k1, sl marker, knit to end-85 sts. Work 1 row even. Rep last 2 rows 4 times more, AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures approx 10(11,12)/25.5 (28, 30.5)cm from beg, bind off from each neck edge 7 sts once, 5 sts once, 4 sts once, 3 sts once, 2 sts twice, then 1 st once”
I am confused on the bolded section, I am assuming “AT THE SAM TIME” means you are decreasing while simultaneously binding off, but in what rows do you bind off as instructed? Do you bind off 7 st at the beginning of one row, then 5 st at the beginning of the next row etc?
I am new to reading knitting patterns so any advice is helpful (:

What is the name of your pattern and designer?
Begin binding off once the piece gets to the given measurement for the size you’re working. When you’ve gotten to that measurement begin binding off at each neck edge (as opposed to the armhole or sleeve edges). Looks like you’ll be binding off for both the cardigan left front neck edge and right front neck edge at the same time. You’ll be binding off at the beginning of right side (RS) and wrong side (WS) rows.
See if that makes sense and if not, come back and ask for clarification.

My piece measures 10in, and I am on a right side row. Just to make sure I’m understanding -
For the bind offs, (I will call this row 1 for simplicities sake) am I meant to BO 7 st at the beginning of row 1 (RS), BO 5 at the beginning of row 2 (WS), BO 4 at the beginning of row three (RS) and so on?
Or rather, will I BO the first 7 st and last 5 st of row 1 (RS), BO the first 4 st and last 3 st of row 2 (WS), BO the first 2 st and last 2 st of row 3 (RS), and so on?

The cardigan looks terrific, really lovely knitting.
Bind off 7sts at the begining of the row and work to the end. Turn and bind off 7sts at the beginning of the next row and work to the end of the row.
Now bind off 5sts at the beginning of the next row and work to the end of row. Turn as usual and bind off 5sts then work to the end of row.
For each bind off you’re working the bind off twice, say once at the beginning of a right side row and again once at the beginning of a wrong side row. The bind offs are all at the beginning of the rows and are balanced so that each side has the same pattern of bind offs (7sts, 5sts, 4sts and so on on each side of the neck).
I’ve tried to stagger the bind offs so that they are on different rows. The small, one row offset won’t be noticeable when you finish.
The bind off of 2sts happens twice on each side so 4 times total unlike all the others which happen once each side of the neck or 2 times total.
