Pattern help please! Martin storey - thorn

Can anyone explain this segment of instructions?

Dec 1 st at armhole edge of next 5 rows, then on foll 6 alt rows, then on foll 4th row and at same time dec 1 st at front slope edge of next and follow 4 alt rows, then on 3 foll 4th rows. 26 sts.

It’s for the left front. I am incredibly confused about the part that is bolded.

It’s my first post but I have seen lots of great advice here!

Thank you

Welcome to the forum!
We’re glad you’re finding the advice useful. It’s a great group here.
What is the name of your pattern and designer?

For the Armhole edge call the next row, row 1 and decrease on rows 1,2,3,4,5 then 7,9,11,13,15 and 17. Finally dec on row 21.
At the same time, for the Front Slope, decrease on rows 1,3,5,7 and 9 then on rows 13,17 and 21.

I’m making this pattern, too!

I was just thinking I had seen that pattern recently!

Ah this makes sense! @salmonmac thank you! I should have read the ENTIRE sentence and not just individual clauses before starting. Tomorrow a wee bit of frogging and I’ll be back at it.

Glad it makes sense. Have fun with the project and please let us see a photo when you finish!

Ok, I feel reaaaaally stupid asking this question because it’s basically the same question as above, I’m stuck at exactly the same place but I still can’t work it out. I’ve been trying to plot it out but I’m somehow one stitch short.

I’m doing the medium (3rd size)

Sorry, please ignore the random 6 and 14 at the end of the brackets. :joy:

If you look at the number of times the decreases are repeated you get 12 decreases at the armhole edge and 7 decreases at the front slope. (52sts to 33sts)
Dec at the armhole on rows 1,2,3,4,5 then rows 7,9,11,13,15 and 17 then row 21. (12sts dec)
Dec at the front slope on rows 1,3,5,7 then 11,15 and 19. (7sts dec)

I agree with you row by row until you get to row 7 and then we’re out of step.

It’s a good question. The only unfortunate thing is not stopping to ask. In my work the simplest questions were often the best.

Gah! I missed the “next”! Honestly I looked at this for ages and still missed that! Thanks so much as always!!

Those little words are so easy to miss. I’ve done it and often question my sanity. (Well I often do that anyway.)

When I get caught in this kind of circle, I read the pattern out loud, and pencil through the directions as I write each one down. I often pick up those little hidden words that way.
