Petit Knit- Zipper Cardigan,
I can not understand part of a pattern.
Would love some help ! Love this site.
The below two rows- How many stitches do I knit on RS before turning? And the same for the Purl row?
Thank you sooooo much :-}
THe Pattern:
Continue working short rows to shape the back, as follows:
Row 1 (RS): Knit to 2 sts after the last RS turn (meaning you work the short row stitch from the previous
RS row and then knit the next 2 sts), turn.
Row 2 (WS): Purl to 2 sts after the last WS turn (meaning you work the short row stitch from the previous
WS row and then purl the next 2 sts), turn.
Work Rows 1 and 2 a total of 13 (14) 15 (16) 17 (19) 20 (22) 24 times (at the last turn there are 2 (3) 3 (2)
It sometimes helps to mark the stitch from the last turn (the wrapped stitch, the double stitch or whatever technique you used). Youāre to knit or purl that turning stitch then work 2 more sts (either knit or purl depending on the row youāre on). Each time you repeat the rows 1 and 2 youāll be working 2 additional sts after the turn stitch from the last time.
What technique are you using for the short rows (wrap & turn, German short rows, etc.)?
Petiteknit patterns are detailed and classic. This is the very pretty one.
Thank you so much for your reply. I love this forum!
Iāll be using German short rows. Your marker idea is great. Thank u. I am confused because I havenāt turned yet but it refers to ā the last turnā.
Id love to literately know how to knit the below row, 1 stitch at a time- Ie how much K stitches before I turn?
Row 1 (RS): Knit to 2 sts after the last RS turn (meaning you work the short row stitch from the previous RS row and then knit the next 2 sts), turn.
That can be confusing. The direction to āKnit to 2 sts after the last RS turnā¦ā is really referring to the following rows, not the initial turns. Presumably there are instructions before the rows 1 and 2 that you quote that set up the postion of the first two turns. It might be something like knit 20sts after the beginning of round marker, turn and purl to 20sts after the beginning of round marker for example.
Without knowing that initial direction itās difficult to say precisely how many knit sts before the turn. We only know that the following turns are 2sts past the last turn. You can quote the first set up rows for the short rows if youād like and tell us which size youāre making, first, second, thirdā¦
Please donāt give us a large portion of the pattern, just those set up rows. We canāt publish large portions of patterns due to designer copyright.
Thank you so much. I am grateful!
I am knitting size** 120-130cm ( 3xl). Iāve just started the pattern and I am at the backyoke, using short rows to slope the shoulders and shape the back. I currently have 117 stitches divided for the back and shoulders.
Hereās where Iām at: I completed the below Knit and Purl rows.
But then ā Row 1ā and ā Row 2ā-
i am at a loss. If it is possible in your experience to share one stitch at a time, what I should do- I would be so grateful. Thank you again for taking the time Julie
Knit until there are 28 (31) 33 (34) 36 (40) 43 (47) 50 sts left on the needle, turn.
Purl until there are 28 (31) 33 (34) 36 (40) 43 (47) 50 sts left on the needle, turn. The next row is a RS row.
Continue working short rows to shape the back, as follows:
Iām stuck with the following two rows
Row 1 (RS): Knit to 2 sts after the last RS turn (meaning you work the short row stitch from the previous
RS row and then knit the next 2 sts), turn.
Row 2 (WS): Purl to 2 sts after the last WS turn (meaning you work the short row stitch from the previous
Knit until there are 43 sts (presumably the left hand needle) left on the needle, turn.
Purl until there are 43 sts left on the needle (presumably the left hand needle), turn. The next row is a RS row.
On the next row you would knit until there are 41sts left on the needle then turn. That should be 2sts past the last turn. The same for the next row, the ws purl row. Purl to 41sts left on the left hand needle, then turn. Work rows 1 and 2 a total of 20 times.
