Pattern Help - Cast On Part of Row

Okay, I’m making a blanket bunny. He’s very cute. Here’s the link to the pattern

So, I’ve done the increases and now it says…

Rows 40-41 Cast on 12 sts for Paws, knit to end of row – 64 sts.

How do I cast on at the beginning of a row? I’ve tried the backward loop cast on, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’m having trouble casting on before knitting. I know how to do it after knitting a row, but when I try to do it before knitting the row, I’m getting a funny gap. I’m not even sure how to explain the problem. Can anyone help?!?

Thanks

Amy

I usually cast on at the end of the previous row and call it the beginning of the next.

Or you can use a knitted cast on.

I was trying to cast on to the right needle and then knit the row. Oops! So I cast on to the left needle and then knit across. Makes sense now!

Thanks for the help.

Amy
