Pattern from Sandra Knitting Magazine, England

I hope someone can help me decipher a little bit of this English knitting pattern.
What does the following mean?
Cable(over 28 sts)work the following chart. Only Rs rows are given. On return rows work sts as set.
I’m confused about the return rows “work sts as set” The “as set” is what I don’t understand.
This is my first entry into this site and am very excited to see the results.
Thanks,
Linda

The term ‘as set’ means set in the pattern. It’s another way of saying knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts as they appear on the WS rows.

The term ‘as set’ is used in a lot of cable patterns.
Sue is right. Just knit the knits and purl the purls on the WS.

Some designers call the WS “the resting row”…meaning you don’t have to work so hard! All “the work” is done on the RS!
Yay! I love patterns like that!
