Hi everyone.
I’m in the mood for a meaty project and have bought some gorgeous variegated yarn.
Ive seen this fabulous Afghan style coat on Instagram. No pattern, just a few details.
My questions for those more experienced than me are:
Am I right thinking this could be made as a granny square that just grows and grows (with 2 rectangles of any stitch at the sides).
Ive only made small squares, but many of them.
I like the circle back but have never made one before and not sure how I’d go about it, especially turning the circle into a square.
Afghan patterns are you best bet IMHO. Here’s one that has the circle in the middle. There are others.
I think I would start with the pattern I chose as written then at some point start turning the work to do three sides. I’ve no idea what the rest of it would be like, a shot of the garment being worn might help, so how to do the back is all I can offer.
Google “circle in a square crochet pattern”, then click Images, and you’ll see many options for the center panel. The way you turn a circle into a square usually involves a few longer stitches, like triples, where the corners will be. You’ll want it larger than this, but maybe these will give you the idea:
Similar patterns here which may help.
Also circle jackets which look great
There are several others on Drops too. Sometimes I read several patterns and combine the ideas of 2 or more into a single project. Or you might like to follow an entire pattern.
Thank you GrumpyGramma for going to all that trouble x
You’re welcome and it was no trouble at all. I had an enjoyable time thinking about how the project could be done. Are you started?
No sadly not had much time. I’m going to choose tonight. Already bought the yarn though!
