Pattern for baby hat using Calmer yarn?

Hi everyone
Well, I knitted 7 hats from pima-tencel yarn (wonderful stuff) for my cousin. These are chemo caps (sadly) but she needed some that were cooler than the ones I made for her in January.

Now I need to make an easy hat for my friend’s 6-month-old granddaughter. I bought a ball (skein? bundle?) of Rowan’s Calmer for this project, but don’t know what pattern would work best for that and get me the right size. (I’m also a loose knitter and need to use needles 2 sizes smaler than most patterns, to get the gauge). I’m not sure what circumfirence I should aim for. 20 inches? 18?

If you could recommend or share a free pattern that would be lovely. The yarn is a pale rosy pink. I can do “advanced beginng” patterns with circular and then double-pointed needles, and some easy stuff like ssk, ktog, and yo.

Thanks for your help, all you delightful people!

I’m not familiar with the yarn and enough baby patterns to tell you what is best, but I came across this hat yesterday and thought it was adorable!

This might help if you don’t have the child handy to measure.

Hi
thanks for the link to the cute pattern! I think I’ll do it!

Here’s what I found about “Calmer”:
This yarn has a tension similar to DK but because of the elasticity in it, is knitted on bigger needles.

If the pattern calls for worsted, how do I change it to make it right for this yarn?

Thanks a lot!
Kirin

I suggest you knit a gauge swatch. Then you can adjust needle size. It’s a pain, but better than frogging repeatedly.
