Pattern confusion!

Hey everyone, I have this question…probably a dumb one but lol that’s ok. What does yo mean? I know it means yarn over but what does that mean?? Some of the patterns I have here say for example
K1, yo, K2tog…where does my yarn go for the yo part? I’m so lost. Help please…anyone!
 :?? :crying:

There is a video for YO at the bottom of THIS PAGE

A yarnover makes an extra stitch, that’s usually why there’s a decrease in the same row. It creates an eyelet. On a knit, the yarn will be in front; for a purl, in back.
