Pattern confusion :(

Thank you for your help.
This is what I thought I was doing but obviously, something went wrong! So I will try again :relaxed:

Practice on a swatch without the double stitch and make sure that the stitch count changes. On your project, do the same. Keep count of stitch number, calling the double stitch one stitch. On Short Rows 5 & 6 two sts are passed over so that 2sts are decreased on each of these short rows. If rows 5&6 are repeated thst’s going to be more decreased sts.
See if it works and if not come back and we’ll see if we can offer more suggestions. It’s such an adorable pattern, I know you’ll get past this!

Which size are you making? Are short rows 5&6 repeated in the pattern and have you worked them yet?
When you repeat the 2 stitch decreases you really see the taper. Adding in the side sts at the end of the short rows helps shape the hood but Rows 5&6 really work the decreases to shape the wedge at the back.

Hey, did you ever figure this out? I am struggling with the same problem  I think my decreases are happening on the outer sides of the ears and not the neckline part inbetween the ears but I can’t seem to figure out why. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum!

It may be a problem with the initial set up row and the ear sts that should be placed on hold.

Hi Rosielie,

I think I was not doing the decrease fully. Focusing on the stitch to slip and then forgetting to pass it over the next one. I did it again, very focused and it worked well. Maybe make sure that your decrease is correctly executed
Good luck!

Hey SalmonMac, this is a good point, about set up. I have counted my stitches and am confident I have done the set up correctly. I am making the smallest size. Still not sure where my problem lies… I think I will commit and try one more time as perhaps later after the first few rows is when the neck starts to decrease. I’ll see how I get on  thanks for your help

It may help if you post a photo so we can see exactly what seems to be going on. Good luck with this next try!
Theknittingfrenchgirl has a good point as far as the individual decreases. It’s easy to miss that pass stitch over. Glad that has worked out too.

I so confused on this! I’m making size 4 would this be the sequence

Short row 1

Short row 2

Short row 3

Short row 4

Short row 3

Short row 4

Short row 5

Short row 6

(Short row 3

Short row 4

Short row 3

Short row 4

Short row 3

Short row 4

Short row 3

Short row 4

Short row 5

Short row 6)

And the block between brackets, needs to be repeated a total of 3 times.

???
Hope someone can help

It looks good as you have written except for the repeats of the bracketed rows. The bracketed rows are repeated 4 times total and decrease 48sts.

(8sts decreased for the repeats of rows 3&4, 4sts decreased for rows 5&6. That’s 12sts decreased per bracket. 12sts x 4repeats=48sts decreased.)

There’s then a repeat of rows 3&4 once.

Thank you
I will try again

Now knitting this and stuck on the same section! When I rejoin yarn - should I rejoin to the yarn I broke that’s at the end of my row on my far right needle (end of the 18 slipped stitches) or should I start knitting across with new yarn (unconnected) after putting the first ear onto waste yarn?

Can you quote the directions for this part please? Don’t post a large section of the pattern due to designer copyright.

If the instruction is to break the yarn, it’s likely you will use an new end of yarn (could be from the same ball of yarn).

Just not sure if I rejoin where I broke the yarn in the previous step?

Your yarn is at the tip of the right hand needle then 20sts (first and second sizes) are slipped from the left to right needle. That leaves the yarn strand in the midst of those sts.
The next 18sts go on hold for ear #1. You’ll need to cut the yarn attached to the right hand needle and begin the next step with a new end of yarn to knit across the next 18sts toward ear #2.
The yarn is rejoined on the other side of the hat not where you first broke it.
If that doesn’t answer your question just let us know. It’s a darling bear suit.
