I am looking at a pattern, and it calls for a pm. What is that?
Here is a sample row of the pattern to clarify:
Row 2: P 40[48, 56], pm, p3, pm, p 40[48, 56].
Thanks,
Stefanie

i believe it means to “place marker” and you place the marker on the stitch you just knit or purl as in this particular pattern :).
you can go here if ou have any other abbriviation confusion. i know i always do even if i’ve seen it a million times lol. http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/abbreviations_explained/
Yep, place marker. If you look in the upper right of the page you’ll see the abbreviations list.
:XX: pm = put a stitch marker
There are many types of stitch markers - basically it is just something (often a little ring or some sort) that can be slipped on your needle and that won’t slip off accidentally.
