Paton's Lacette

Hello!

So, I hauled DH to JoAnns the other day hoping for some yarn sales (there weren’t any to speak of :() but I did find a big clearance bin, and ended up taking home 10 balls of Paton’s Lacette and 2 balls of Moda Dea Cheerio. I don’t really know what came over me, I have no idea what to do with any of it! But at less than a dollar a skein, who cares what you’re going to do with it!

But, my question is, have any of you used the Lacette before? I have plenty of lacey patterns I want to try out, but I don’t know how well the stuff will block. I don’t want to spend all the time to knit it if it’s not going to block well, you know? The fiber content is mostly acrylic and nylon, with a little bit of mohair for fluffiness. I searched on here and Ravelry about it and no one really said much about the blockablility, just that it tends to tangle and whatnot.

Acrylic won’t block. Have you looked on Paton’s website for patterns made with it? They should have a few.

Good idea-- I went there and I guess the yarn is discontinued so they don’t have it listed. But I did a google search, found a book with patterns that use it and looked the book up on Ravelry. It looks like you can use it for lacey stuff that is snug so it stretches the stitches out… if that makes sense! Oh well, I’m sure I’ll find something to do with it!

Did you check Ravelry for what people have made with it?

And I think if you used a larger needle to make a lacey item, that will open it up in place of blocking.

I used it for two projects. One was for a sweater and one was for a scarf. I don’t have a pic of the scarf but it was a Lace leaf scarf pattern from vogue knitting spring/summer 2005 which came out really nice. and the sweater was a wrap sweater which you can see on my ravelry page. not lace but it was stockinette stitch.

I recommend you use the outside string because if you use the inside string it will tangle like no other.

I LOVE Paton’s Lacette. cloud9

I’m using it right now to make a drop-stitch scarf, and it’s looking very nice.

If you decide you don’t want the yarn, let me know, and I’ll buy it from you.

If you or anyone are interested in buying some of this yarn, I have a lot of it. I have not tried it yet but I don’t need all I have.
