p2tog,YO, across row...?

I’m trying Bauble Sweater
On row 3, the pattern reads:
k3,p2tog, YO, repeat fromacross row, ending P2tog, k3(eyelet row)

The first part with a question?

When doing the p2tog, the yarn is in front, I get this… but when it says do a YO and then I’m repeating p2tog, I’m abit confused… how do I create the YO? I guess where I am puzzled is if I put the yarn over(in the front) what is the difference in that- then just putting the yarn in front before doing the p2tog?..

Also, after completing this row…

Row 4 says… K

so
when I get to the p2tog, do I knit this stitch as “1” or do I knit
the p2tog as 2 separate stitches?

I hope I am making sense. I know what I want to say, but I don’t know if I am asking my questions correctly.

Thanks for all your help.

For a YO between purls, wrap the yarn around as if you were purling a stitch. The YO is just like making a knit or purl except the R needle isn’t inserted into a st on the L needle. The dec makes 1 st out of 2 previous ones, so on the next row it’s going to be just 1 st; the YO is just 1 st too, knit it like the rest.

I will try and see what happens…
thanks so much,
