So, I’m still a very new knitter and can’t quite get my mind wrapped around this part of the pattern. My main question is where the working yarn will be at each point and as for the YO, will I actually wrap it around the needle and bring it back to the front or do nothing because it’s already in the front from the purl stitch.
The pattern on another row is similar, except it is preceded by K1 (YO, SSK). This one seems more straight forward. Wouldn’t I just knit, bring the yarn to the front (that would be the YO) and then SSK with the yarn in the front…?

Yes, you’re right, for the yo after the purl, the yarn is already in the front. For the yo after the k1, bring the yarn to the front between the needles and then over the right needle to the back for the ssk, just as you say.
So somewhere else I read that the yarn always has to be in the back for SSK, so are you sure the yarn trays in front after the purl? Also, in that video, she makes the comment that if you did wrap the yarn around to the back it would leave a hole…well, I am doing lace, so don’t I want a hole?
You won’t keep the yarn in the front. It’s in front from the purl stitch and you’ll bring it over the right needle to the back to do the ssk. Sorry for the confusion. You’re right, the yarn has to be to the back for the ssk.
And yes, yarn overs are going to create holes (unles you twist them on the next row) and that’s the reason to use them for lace.
