I am knitting a sweater, however, the instruction for the tuck pattern row 1 is confusing. How can I bring the yarn over and then be at the back?
After the purl stitch the yarn is in front. When you take the yarn over the right needle to the back, that makes the yarn over.
Purl 1, yarn over the right needle to the back, slip the next stitch purlwise then bring the yarn around to the front between the needles to purl the next stitch.
This is a video for a typical yo between 2 purls. You’ll pause where the yarn goes to the back, slip the next stitch and then complete the video by bringing the yarn to the front between the needles.
See if that helps with the stitch and if not, come back.
When I do this, the yarn over stitch ends up crossing over the slip stitch. I don’t feel that it is creating a stitch as in the video, I’m just ‘moving it’ to the back.
In the video, the yarn over does a full rotation around the needle and ends up at the front, which I understand. Should I be going between the needles then over the right needle and to the back before the slip stitch, and then back forward between the needles for the purl stitch?
That’s ok that the yo crosses over the slip stitch. It’ll happen again in the next row too.
You’ve just worked a purl stitch so the yarn is already in front. Bring the yarn to the back over the right needle, slip one stitch still holding the yarn to the back then take the yarn around to the front between the needles to purl 1. Yes, the yarn makes a full rotation around the needle.
Yes, the
Could you also breakdown for me/ clarify row 2: sl st and yo purlwise wyif, yo.
And row 3: k next st and 2 yo tog. Is this a double yarn over?
For the repeat on row 2, bring the yarn to the front between the needles, slip the next stitch and the yo that is crossing it (the x), yarn over the right needle to the back, k1. This yarn over will put another strand of yarn over the x from the previous row (call it big X).
For row 3 you’re going to knit the next stitch and its two yarn over strands (the X) together. Don’t make a double yarn over. You already have the two yarn over strands from the previous two rows.
