JoAnn has Ott light combos on sale @ $109.99. If I’m really lucky I could also get 20% off for Senior Discount Day and that would make them about $88. Do you think this is a good deal, with or without the 20% which might not apply? Any comments are welcome. I want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly. Would you buy them at this price?
TIA
Now to go Google and see what reviews I can dig up there have to say.
I went and looked at some reviews. The biggest complaint seems to be that the floor lamp tips easily. The other big complaint was trying to deal with the seller when the light was defective or needed a new bulb. I think that going through JoAnn might not be too bad if I had those issues. I’m already thinking about how I could weight the base of the floor lamp. The price would be hard to beat if I get both for $88. The clamp on one would go by my sewing machine.
I don’t have an Ott but I have a Verilux. Anything that gives you close to natural spectrum light (daylight) will do the trick and do it well. And I’ve only heard good things about Ott Lights. Sounds like a steal…
I have a cheapo Home Depot brand lamp similar too Ott Light and it’s great. Mine is a table lamp meant for crafting. I think it was $20. I use it if I have to knit dark yarns and stuff like that. Good price for the Ott.
I’ve had an Ott floor lamp for years. I originally bought it for quilting dark fabrics at night (I had no choice; I was teaching school).
I use it now for yarnwork at night and for quilting; it’s absolutely great. I can match colors at night, knowing that they’ll stand up to the light of day.
Both of the Otts have the magnifier so I could have one at the sewing machine (I might do more sewing again) and one by my chair for other things, maybe even knitting. :teehee: Dark yarns are hard to work with and I think the light and magnifier would both come in handy.
I actually have two of these lamps. I found one at Tuesday Morning and the other got at an estate sale. THey are both the desk type and I have one on my sewing machine table and the other on my farmer table where I do a lot finishing work. They do make a difference!
I only paid $35 at Tuesday morning.
I bought the $200 Ott floor lamp with a half-price coupon just before they went on sale last fall…needed new lamp near sewing table.
If you read the reviews on this particular light most complaints are about failure of the bulb…mine lasted less than one week. I contacted customer service about the warranty and after about eight weeks I received a new bulb…wrong size for the lamp. Rather than pay full price at JoAnn Fabrics I went to Lowe’s and got a replacement bulb for $20.00. Bulbs for smaller lamps are $10.00 at Lowe’s.
If you need a 24WHD Ott Lite replacement I’ll send it to you for price of mailing.
Judy
PS: Bulbs are very hard to remove and replace but once you get the hang of it it’s a snap…pardon the pun!!!
JudyD’s post along with the others has persuaded me to skip it for now, maybe I’ll think about it again later. I wouldn’t be able to get into the store when the 20% off is good anyhow. Thanks, all. I’m going to see what Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc. have in stock.
Check out the Verilux site. They have really good sales at times. I’ve had the flex lamp w/magnifier for years which I use downstairs for knitting, quilting, or hand sewing. Only problem I’ve had with that one is the flex tube cracking from moving the lamp so much. Love the light it gives.
