OT- Paypal

Well, I have some patterns that I would like to buy off the internet and they require using Paypal. My parents have never bought anything off the internet before and are not sure if it’s a good idea. If any of you have used Paypal, have you had any problems? Do they charge you extra fees or interest or anything for using it? Thanks in advance! :muah:

Can anybody help me? I’m sure at least one of you have used Paypal :teehee:

You are not charged ANYTHING as a buyer! You can choose to use a bank account (checking or savings) or a credit card. I use Paypal alot for buying and selling and have never had any problems. It is VERY easy!! And sometimes you can use it without setting up an account. But I’m not sure whether it’s only at certain stores or anytime. If you need anymore help, just ask. I’d be happy to help!

Thank you!!! My parents and I will look into it more. :happydance:

Have used paypal for YEARS… as a buyer and a seller

Love it…

I had a problem years ago when one had to type in the payees email address in order to submit payment.

The Payee had given me the wrong name/email and so the payment went to the wrong person — who wouldn’t return it. I was out $70 and never got it back. PayPal did nothing despite calls and emails.

I canceled my account then.

Just recently, I opened a new account in order to sell on eBay. So far so good. They’ve certainly changed how transactions are handled and I feel a bit more secure this time around.

Thanks all of you! Sorry, bout that Iris… at least it sounds like they have made their program better. But thank you for letting me know about that!!! if we use paypal we will make sure we get the correct email. Also, does it cost money to make a Paypal account?

It does not cost to set up an account or to buy! Only the seller pays fees on certain types of transactions.

paypal has been great for 2 people here!
before you do anything for your first transaction if you want it to go through right away, you have to make sure your address from your bank/credit card has been verified (it will say it on the paypal acct) or it will take up to a week.
but the verification takes about 5 seconds if you do it first.

(maybe that’s overly obvious to everyone but me, but just thought I’d say… :teehee: )

oh ok!!! thanks for all the help everybody!!! :muah:

I’ve used it several times and never had problems!

I use it all the time! The way I’ve been buying yarn, like once a week. Never had a problem.

With any disputes, Paypal sides with buyer, never the seller, unless you meet Paypal’s “preferred seller” policy. But as a buyer, you don’t have too much to worry about. And you can buy with either a credit card or bank transfer without fees. Again, different if you’re the seller, but it doesn’t sounds like you plan on selling anything, so you don’t have to worry about it! Yay!

I love PayPal as well. It beats the worry of typing your credit card #.

I will warn you, however, of emails you may receive from fake, look-alike PayPal websites.

If you receive any email that says your account has been compromised or that something needs to be verified, and there is a LINK in the email, do not click on the link.

Go to PayPal directly from your internet browser and log in from there (not using the link provided, so don’t cut and paste).

I have received numerous emails, and it usually happens when I’ve been buying a lot on Ebay, or if I’ve been doing a lot of online buying using PayPal.

PayPal will ALWAYS address their emails to you with the first and last name on the account. Plus, they will never ask you to log into your account.

With all that said, it really is a great system for online payment.

I’ve used paypal as a buyer several times and not really had any problems. I certainly think they are very safe way to do transaction on the internet.

My only issue with Paypal is that once recently when I waiting for a refund from a seller. i couldn’t find the pending transaction on Paypal and as it was taking several days I got concerned something was amiss. I ended up calling Paypal to talk to someone for help – first I was routed to one of the India call-centers and being a computer person knew that the explainations I was being weren’t right – after what was forever I demanded to be transfered to a “manager”. After waiting on hold forever again I finally spoke with an American person and had my question answered within about 3 minutes. Beside just being annoyed that it was a hassle to get a question answered, I was also a bit peeved when my phone bill came and it turned out that when the call was indeed transfered back to the US (somewhere in OH I believe) we were charged long distance rates, even tho I orginally called a toll free number.

I also like my Citibank credit card for online transactions as Citibank will give you virtual credit card number to use instead of your actual credit card number – it’s basically a one time credit card number that can only be used once (with whatever online company you are purchasing from). The number also expires in some short amount time (6 weeks?) if not used. The virtual number is then mapped to my credit card by Citibank when the charge comes in and it looks like just a regular transaction on my monthly bill. That way I never input my real credit card information online. It’s pretty slick.

I have used PayPal for years and have never had a problem. I do use a credit card dedicated to online purchases so I can keep track of charges easily. I did recently have that credit card charged fraudulently , but it did not seem to generate from PayPal. Now I have a new one I use.

Make sure that once you have opened your account, you neve respond to the phishing emails asking for your info. ALL PayPal correspondence is addressed to your name not to “paypal member.”

I have used PayPal for hundreds, and I do mean hundreds of purchases and think it is GREAT, much safer than giving your credit card over the internet. The only problem(and it isn’t really a problem) I have every had is that if you ever get a refund it can take a week to 10 days to get it credited to your account. But as long as you know that and don’t expect the money INSTANTLY it is fine.

I am a devoted PayPal user, both as a buyer and seller, and I have a PayPal credit card for online and in person purchases that debits straight from my PP account. I’ve been using PP for at least 5 years and have never had one single problem.

I’ve been using PayPal for about 5 years and never had any problems, even though i’m a long distance user :teehee: . What is true, it’s the fake e-mails you might get. I always forward them to PayPal spoof@paypal.com mail so they at least try and fight it.
Also, when i had a problem with seller who hasn’t completed his part of the deal, i was refunded by PayPal and not by the seller, because PayPal have buyer protection, which is really nice :cheering:

I don’t know how it works in US, but here the credit card companies (Visa or Mastercard) insure the credit card for fraudulent charges, so i’m protected from both sides.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone!!! You guys are soo helpful!! :notworthy:
